Will try tone fair and objective with my review and comments. First impressions were not good when we were abruptly told "You'll have to wait at least 20 minutes! Within a few minutes, three other units had pulled up behind us, and with such a short drive, the meant the back of our queue was dangerously backed onto the busy main road.
Despite this no attempt was made to address the situation or show any flexibility. While waiting patiently, we chatted with the others, and they were all a bit shocked at the 12noon rule being applied so rigidly.
When the time came, we were efficiently signed in with all the new arrival paperwork having been prepared, and ushered to our pitch, were I was "instructed" in the manoeuvres to get our caravan precisely positioned. The assumption had been made that I was totally incompetent of doing this myself.
I found this quite offensive but to be fair, once I had surrendered control, his instructions were sound. It's just the very abrupt way it was done. Once settled in, we began to take s good look around the site. I have to say, it became more and more apparent that this site is a "transit" site where most only stop for one or two nights.
That could explain why the whole site looks and feels worn out! The general look and feel is scruffy and unloved, with pitches quite close together so overlooking opposite and adjacent pitches, window to window.
Not that you expect total privacy on a campsite, but this one is quite crammed. We were also quite shocked to discover that the toilets were shut from And the reception office is shut during this time too, so no access to local or tourist information either. With 4 site staff on site this seems quite ridiculous. On our second day, my wife was walking our little dog round the perimeter of the site, in some shade as the sun was belting down and very hot, to be verbally attacked by a fellow camper, who claimed we were invading her privacy by walking our dog too close to her pitch.
There wasn't a "Please, do you mind not walking your dog quite so close". It was a verbal explosion that was a real shock and quite out of proportion. We made the camp staff aware of this and we advised "Best stay away from that persons pitch" Now the site information does mention s "Dog Walk" across the road, however this is across a VERY busy main road, and there is a very high stile to negotiate to get to the walk.

Well it's not even a properly maintained footpath. This does NOT constitute any proper provision for walking your dog safely off site. Two days later we are again walking our dog round the site, to be once more attacked by one of the deputy site staff. Now this was at the opposite end of the site where there was plenty of room with a couple of vacant pitches. This was obviously not good enough, so we were instructed that the dog must be walked off site! No more information regards alternative walks was offered. I hope anyone reading this will understand why we may not feel that rings true?
We have registered our dissatisfaction though the clubs Facebook pages, and have received an initial acknowledgement with a promise of contact from customer services "soon" but that was days ago! Not promising! With this situation running unresolved, we have decided to return home 2-days early and seriously consider the renewal of our club membership when that comes up later this year.
I stopped here in my tent for two nights during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. What more could you ask for? Intended to stay at this site for the weekend.
Campsites in West Sussex
On exiting the main road and approaching the entrance could not deny the fact that this site is very close to the road. First impressions last and the site appeared very cramped with no space around units. Personally we like to have a little space around us and not camp on top of our neighbours therefore took our leave without actually staying. Says a lot for first impressions but I am sure if you don't mind being on top of your neighbour this will be fine.

It is in an excellent location so as a base for sightseeing, great. A very clean camp site, although it's close to a main road, just outside Emsworth. I believe it's under new management, who were very welcoming and gave plenty of advice about the local area. Throughly enjoyed our stay, as it was all very clean!
